Who’s The Boss? 10 Ways To Take Control Of Your Life!

Positive thinking allows us to focus on our strengths and accomplishments, which increases happiness and motivation. This, in turn, allows us to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and negative. Here’s 10 practical suggestions that you can use to help you shift into more positive thinking patterns and take control of your life:

1. Look After Number One:
Take good care of yourself first. It’s much easier to be positive when you’re eating well, exercising, and getting sufficient rest. You’ll feel good about yourself and your attitude will attract people and situations that bring along great opportunities.

2. Be Grateful:
You’ll have good days and you’ll have REALLY good days! There will be stressful times when things are challenging and difficult. But there is hope when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are right in life. Take a few minutes a day to pause and appreciate the good things that you have in your life.

3. Seek The Proof, Never Assume:
Your personal fears and inhibitions will try to lead you to assume what others are thinking of or planning to do. Peoples fears of looking or sounding stupid or uneducated or ignorant will stop them from getting real proof of a situation or an event. This is not a good way to live. Remember, the only stupid question is the one that you don’t ask.

You can’t know for sure what’s going on in another person’s mind or what they are thinking about. ASK AND BE SURE! Get the proof and then plan and react to that. Don’t waste time worrying unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.

4. Don’t Do Absolutes!
Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes! Obi Wan Kenobi said that! Absolutes are finite and final, leaving no room for improvement, compromise, development, negotiation and co-operation.

I’m never wrong! It’s got to be done this way! You’re no use to me! This is the last time I’ll say this to you ! You’re a complete failure! I never want to see you again! You’ll come to regret it! Don’t contact me again! I won’t take your advice!

Thinking and speaking in absolutes makes the situation seem worse than it is, and compels you to believe that people are less dependable and incapable of delivering.

5. Think Positive:
You’re too good to dwell on negative thoughts! Your thoughts can’t hold any power over you if you don’t judge them. Everyone has negative thoughts now and then. If you notice yourself having a negative thought, detach from it, witness it but don’t follow it.

6. Step On The ANT:
Automatic Negative Thoughts. These bad thoughts are based on your personal fears and are usually reactionary such as “Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me,” or “The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!” These thoughts usually have no base in fact. Refer to Point 3 above again and seek proof.

7. Be Touchy Feely:
But only with people you know! Otherwise you could end up in an asylum.. or jail! You don’t have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends and loved ones is a good pick-me-up.

In business and work conditions you can touch a colleague or partner sparingly to show connection, commitment and mutual alliance without invading their personal space and making them feel uncomfortable. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed the bill over. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn’t touch!

8. Be Socially Active:
Not Facebook, not Twitter but with real human beings! By increasing your social activity, you banish loneliness and increase meaningful emotional and physical connections. Surround yourself with healthy, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Do Good Deeds:
Everyone feels good after helping someone else. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources to help your local community or the world at large. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return.

10. Don’t Ruminate:
Rumination means to focus intensely on something negative. It’s never productive, because it’s not rational or solution oriented. It’s just excessive worry. If you find yourself worrying about things too much, interrupt the pattern and force yourself to do something completely different. Try changing your physical environment and thinking by going for a walk or go and see a movie. Or call a friend, read a book, or turn on some music.
